WHICH TOY DOES YOUR ACCOUNTS AND BOOKKEEPING PROCESS MOST LOOK LIKE?
As we headed towards Christmas, all I seem to see were toy adverts! As a result of this, when I was walking Ella over the fields thinking of accounts and bookkeeping the two things suddenly converged in my mind! I thought about the differences in toys and how they relate quite well to people’s accounts systems and processes that I come across.
So my question to you is, which toy does your accounts system and bookkeeping process most look like?
Lego
Every piece is beautifully crafted but not much use on its own. It’s capable of creating amazing works of art and towering structures but even though these are started, they are never completed.
Sometimes you leave a bit out and step on it in the night – the pain can be agonising! And you don’t always know when a piece didn’t make it back to the box.
Toy Soldiers
Well drilled and trained, together you can re-enact the battle of Waterloo or any other period of history, but you don’t always have control, your soldiers can sometimes do serious damage, by deserting or rioting, or simply acting on their own initiative and going in completely the wrong direction. You only catch the misaligned when something serious has happened!
Rubix Cube
Impossible to understand or fathom for the non-initiated. If you can’t do the puzzle, you are left with a confused heap of plastic that is only going to torment you, or pay a fortune for someone to solve it for you. You really want to learn so you can challenge anyone in a Rubik’s contest.
Spinning Top
Careering widely out of control, with no-one to stop it taking off in a direction all of its own. It may look wonderful when it is spinning, but no-one is in control and no-one knows when it will fall over!
Wack a mole
This is a classic, as soon as you get rid of one issue, another one appears, and there is no predicting when the next mole (issue) will appear. The excitement and adrenaline rush is amazing but there is a huge comedown.
Jigsaw
Patiently reviewing each piece to ensure that it fits where it should, and once all the pieces are together, a beautiful picture emerges. You get glances and ideas as you go along, but you need all the pieces in the right places to fully understand the artist’s vision.
So in your head you probably know which toy most relates to your accounts and bookkeeping processes. Unless your accounts and processes are like the perfectly created jigsaw, my advice would be to seek help.
I support businesses every day to sort out their lego to build something amazing, keep their soldiers under control and teach them how to master the Rubik’s cube. With Wack a mole I take the club out of their hand and get them to start doing jigsaws instead! It all starts with a free accounts and bookkeeping processes review.
